SFHS Econ Team

SFAS Social Studies Teacher Kelly Lipinski took 32 juniors to St. Cloud State University to compete in the Heartland Economics Challenge Regional, March 29.

He wrote: Our teams completed three rounds of testing in economics and two of our teams qualified for the final quiz bowl round. This was our first time ever competing in this event at least since I’ve been here. We entered 8 teams into 2 divisions and competed against 4 other schools. The high school economics division was called the David Ricardo division and the CIS/AP division was called the Adam Smith division. They’re economists and they’re dead.

I am happy to report that Addy Halland placed 2nd individually out of all students in the DR division, Otto Netteberg placed 3rd in the AS division, and Ethan Treiber placed 2nd in the AS division.

As a team in the David Ricardo division Addy Halland, Joshua Spartz, Kristen Gifford, Sena Ruid, and Teagan Harmon beat the team from Cambridge-Isanti in the quiz bowl finals and will be heading to State.

In the Adam Smith division Otto Netteberg, Henrik Lind, Elek Torek, and Ethan Treiber beat the team from St. Cloud Tech and will also advance to the state meet.

The state meet will occur on April 19 at Securian Financial in St. Paul. Many of the participants will be wearing their black Economics Challenge t-shirts today. If you see them give them a high five.
